Body to Bike transition zones: opportunity areas for fitting advancements

John Higgins

As bike fitters our primary role is to harmonize the relationship between a human and a machine.  There are particular challenges and opportunities where the primary contact points of the body meet the bike.

The greatest area of opportunity is in the foot to pedal transition zone. We’ll look at recent trends in footwear design and take a deeper dive into the thinking behind the latest in fully custom shoes.

Weight distribution as a key metric in bike fitting

Daniel Schade

The interaction between rider and bicycle is defined by three contact points. Saddle load provides a key indicator of postural stability, efficiency and potential discomfort. We explore the biomechanical relevance of saddle load: What does it reveal about position? How can it be measured accurately? And which adjustments can we apply to optimise weight distribution?

From lab coat to lycra: translating the research to real-world bike fit.

Wendy Holliday

This presentation covers the key takeaways from recent research papers and how to turn that data into everyday decisions in the bike fit studio. The talk discusses evidence-based ranges as guidelines for optimal performance and injury risk, and how to approach the rider who does not fit into those ranges.

The Hip Chain in Cycling: Efficiency, Injury, and When the Nerve is the Culprit

Curtis Cramblet

This lecture explores how hip mobility, strength, and control impact cycling performance. It covers common issues like femoral acetabular impingement, how to distinguish true hamstring tightness from nerve or spine-related restrictions, and when to refer clients to a medical professional.

An Investigation into Cycling Participation Post Total Knee Arthroplasty

Bianca Broadbent

exploring how joint replacement impacts return to riding, performance, and long-term mobility. Drawing on current research and clinical experience, it will highlight key factors influencing rehabilitation outcomes and provide insights for bike fitters working with post-TKA cyclists.

You Don’t Know What you Don’t Know

Andrew Brooke

The toughest fit problems aren’t the ones you can’t solve—they’re the ones you don’t realise exist. This session uncovers the blind spots that separate good outcomes from true mastery, and shows how exposing them accelerates both rider results and fitter growth.

Workshops

Each afternoon, delegates will be divided into groups and rotate through six practical workshops, completing three sessions each day to ensure full participation across the conference.

The Missing Link - Why your communication matters as much as the fit itself

Gillian Corke

As fitters and physiotherapists, we focus on the bike and the body — but the real impact lies in the space between them. Drawing on 15 years in the field, this one-hour session offers practical communication tools to improve the connection between client, fitter, and bike. With greater trust, clarity, and empathy, we create better fits, better outcomes, and stronger businesses.

Addressing pelvic rotation and muscle imbalance in bike fit.

Wendy Holliday

This hands-on workshop helps you fit the rider who feels “twisted” on the bike. The session covers likely causes, what and how to assess off and on the bike, and targeted bike fit changes as well as exercises to correct the imbalances.

Non-Normative Riders: How Body Structure Shapes Bike Fit Decisions

Łukasz Szczęsny

Join physiotherapist and IBFI Level 4 fitter Łukasz Szczęsny for a hands-on workshop focused on functional assessment in bike fitting. Through five simple tests, you’ll learn to identify rider body types, decode postural patterns, and apply your findings directly to fit decisions. With every participant assessed during the session, you'll sharpen your observation skills and gain a new perspective on fitting from the body outward. Wear sporty clothing—this session is fully interactive.
