Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Why CPD?
The International Bike Fitting Institute (IBFI) exists to raise standards in bicycle fitting. Our CPD framework ensures members continually update knowledge, sharpen practical skills, and contribute to the profession.

The Hybrid CPD Model
-
Maintain: Earn 50 points within every 2‑year cycle to retain your current certification level.
-
Progress: Points above 50 count toward upgrading to the next IBFI level. You can accumulate progression points across multiple cycles.
Certification Levels & Targets
-
Level 1 – Maintain: 50 | Progress target: 80
-
Level 2 – Maintain: 50 | Progress target: 90
-
Level 3 – Maintain: 50 | Progress target: 100
-
Level 4 – Maintain: 50 | Progress target: N/A (recognition via Excellence for 120+ points per cycle)
Excellence Recognition: Members who substantially exceed their level’s expectations (e.g., Level 3 at 120+ points) may be highlighted as IBFI CPD Excellence.
How Points Work
-
Cycle length: 2 years.
-
Evidence: Keep certificates, agendas, links, publications, or verification letters.
-
Balance: Earn points across at least two categories (to avoid over‑reliance on one type of activity).
-
Verification: IBFI may audit entries during renewal or progression applications.

FAQs
-
Can I roll progression points into the next cycle?
Yes—progression points can accumulate across multiple cycles. The 50‑point maintenance threshold resets each cycle. -
What if I don’t hit 50 points?
Your certification may lapse or be placed on hold until you meet the requirement. -
Can teaching count if it’s in a related field (e.g., physio)?
Yes, if you demonstrate relevance to bicycle fitting. Provide context and evidence. -
Do manufacturer trainings count?
Yes, log them under Self‑Directed Learning (1–5 points each).
